The initial TC Muses Transatlantic Internet Multimedia Seminar Southeastern Europe (TIMSSE) public education program hosted by the Center for Educational Outreach & Innovation (CEO&I) took place on November 22nd. Guest speakers during this program at Teachers College included Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, Lead Author, Human Development Report 2002, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Julia Wanjiru, TIMSSE series alumna 2001 and Intern, Human Development Report Office, UNDP. The topic of discussion was "Human Development and Conflict Prevention: Insights from UNDP." The planned Internet CUseeMe videoconference link to Roger Boston, Rockwell Chair and Creativity Consultant, Houston Community College System, in China, was postponed due to power shortages in the region. In addition to CEO&I, the Institute of Political Studies (Sciences Po), Paris, and the Center for Applied Policy Research (CAP), University of Munich joined the multimedia program.

The New York audience included participation by MaryRose Barranco Morris, Interim Executive Director, CEO&I; Vanessa Scherrer, Coordinator, Alliance Program, SIPA, Columbia University; Susan Hubbard, Program Director, Center for International Conflict Resolution, SIPA; Ted Perlmutter, German Marshall Fellow, Center for European Studies, New York University; Thomas Hill, Center for International Conflict Resolution, SIPA; and Nathalie Rey, Graduate Student, SIPA.

TIMSSE, the first distance learning offering at Sciences Po Paris, focuses on conflict prevention for the Balkans region. There are 20 nationalities represented in the 15-week multimedia seminar, which began its fourth year this fall. These include students from France, Germany, Austria, the United States, Lithuania, Jamaica, Italy, Greece, Romania, Algeria, the Netherlands, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Russia, Ukraine, Peru, Bulgaria and Albania. Four of these students are also Rotary World Peace Scholars studying at the new Rotary Center for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution in Paris. One is also in the dual degree program between SIPA and Sciences Po.
